Bob Scholten

Head shot of the artist Bob Scholten

I have been drawing  since I can remember. My primary medium has been pen and ink.  At some point in time as I got older I started selling my drawings by sitting in malls on weekends. Soon I started selling in shows and galleries. For a short while I had my own gallery. None of that was profitable so I drifted into doing architectural illustrations. That kept me busy for the next 40+ years illustrating architectural projects locally and around the world. I was originally hired for my ink drawings when the cost of reproducing color was prohibitive. As the costs decreased, my drawings became the base for adding color either by myself or others. Around 2010, the profession was changing with the advancement of computer aided 3D modeling and rendering programs. Slowly I was replaced by younger people who were proficient on the computer and were a lot cheaper. Since then I’ve been exploring all sorts of different artistic directions, doing chickens and roosters for a while, then greeting cards, posters and other graphic interests. I still love to create. I am inspired and energized by seeing the work of other artists.

Today the majority of my work is done on my iPad.
